Salinas, CA - May 30, 2008 - Mayor Dennis Donohue will gain first-hand experience of police work when he joins the Salinas Police Department's Community Police Academy this Monday.
During the 12-week program, the Mayor will earn about police hiring and training; laws covering arrest, search and seizure; canine operations and more. He will also go on a police ride-along.
"Our plan for a City at Peace is based on prevention, intervention, and enforcement," said Donohue. "The more we all know, and the more involved we all are, the better."
Members of the Community Police Academy will meet every Monday evening at 6:00. Those interested in joining future classes can download an application at www.salinaspd.com, or pick one up in the Salinas Police Department front lobby.
